Go Red - Be Heart Smart

Smart Heart Red Dress Dinner

More than 100 women gathered recently for KershawHealth’s first Smart Heart Red Dress dinner. Guests were treated to a gourmet heart-health meal, mini-makeovers from Belk, lots of fun door prizes and a question-and-answer session with a variety of medical, health, nutrition and exercise experts. Keynote speaker Susan Outen, RN inspired guests with her success at turning simple changes into a profound lifestyle makeover. After realizing her family history placed her at great risk for heart disease, Susan successfully quit smoking, lost weight, began exercising regularly and started eating healthier…one day and one change at a time. Despite a busy travel schedule and a demanding job with the South Carolina Hospital Association, Susan has maintained these changes for years and has become a staunch advocate for women’s heart health. It was great fun hearing how this hometown girl (she worked at KershawHealth for more than 25 years, and still lives in Camden) has taken charge of her own health and is now challenging other women to do the same.

Panelists provided guidance on heart attack symptoms, risk factors for heart disease, simple tips for exercising more and eating healthier and encouragement to take steps to improve your lifestyle, even if you already have heart disease.
