Fighting cancer is difficult enough without having to fight traffic in another city to find the treatment you need. Thankfully, patients in Kershaw County can stay close to family and friends while they receive the skilled, compassionate oncology care that helps them fight cancer. KershawHealth Oncology administers chemotherapy five days per week, and a physician from South Carolina Oncology Associates sees patients each Tuesday and Thursday.
Oncology Services include:
- Hydration Therapy
- IV Fluid
- Palliative Care
- Supportive Drug Therapy
- Injectables to reduce side effects
- IV Antibiotics / Iron Therapy
The Oncology Center is located on the second floor of the Medical Center, which is most conveniently accessed from Haile Street in Camden. Proceed to the right entrance, marked Emergency and Outpatient Center. Once inside, turn left and proceed through the waiting area, looking for a long hallway on the right. Follow this hallway and look for the Outpatient Center elevators on the right. The elevators will take you up to the second floor to the Oncology Center.
Typically your physician will arrange for your first visit, and registration will be done in advance so that you can go directly to the Oncology Center when you arrive, without having to stop at Registration.
Your first visit will usually take from 30 to 45 minutes. For this visit, it is a good idea come with a family member or friend. You will be hearing lots important information, and sometimes a second pair of ears can really help.
Following your initial visit, your actual chemotherapy treatment sessions will be scheduled. They typically last from 3 to 6 hours. You are welcome to bring a family member or friend for company and support, and because the medications can sometimes make you drowsy.
